In 2007,
Pedernales Electric Coop (PEC) Board voted to:
"Provide Habitat for Humanity with
electric service, free of cost, to all houses under construction in
our
service
area." Includes: 1) Waiving the $1050 fee for new locations;
2) Paying Habitat for Humanity's
$50 membership fee; and 3) Provide
electricity during construction. PEC will also:
1) Waive new homeowner's $75 fee and
present them with a $150 Give-A-Watt Check when they
take possession. This will cover
the $50 membership fee and the first $100 of electric use.
At
the present time, Highland Lakes Habitat has a backlog of
applications for Partner Families and
cannot accept new applications until after the first of the year -
2009. Please monitor this area for
further information.
All Habitat homes are built
largely by volunteer workers with the assistance
of partner families who
then take possession
and assume the
interest-free, affordable mortgage from Habitat.
