About Us

Mission/Purpose:

The Highland Lakes Habitat For Humanity charter clearly states that we are to "witness to and implement the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Texas and throughout the United States and the world by working with economically disadvantaged people to help them create a better human habitat in which to live and work".

As a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing ministry we welcome all people to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those who lack adequate shelter.

Habitat for Humanity puts faith into action by working in partnership with people in need to build and renovate simple, decent, affordable housing.

Highland Lakes Habitat For Humanity seeks to build lives as well as houses. Through the houses we build, hope is restored and lives are changed as the devastating cycle of poverty is broken. By forming partnerships with churches, businesses, organizations and individuals, communities are revitalized.  Even more importantly, Habitat houses testify to the love of God.   Each house becomes a sermon on His love for all people.

Decent shelter is a basic human need. Millions worldwide face a future robbed of hope due to a lack of adequate shelter.  You can provide families with hope for the future by your partnership with Habitat.  Your time, talents, prayers and donations are needed to further this ministry.

Why HLHFH Is Needed?

In our community, the Marble Falls Housing Authority has over 250 families waiting on affordable housing. Highland Lakes Habitat For Humanity has over twenty families on a waiting list for affordable housings. This list is growing daily. When families call to inquire about housing the local affiliate is in a position where they have to tell them that it could be up to seven years or more before we can accommodate them with affordable housing. Their answer, "Please put us on your list anyway because we need to get decent housing for our children".

Millions of Americans face a housing crisis. In fact, 5.1 million American families have "worst-case" housing needs, forced to pay more than half their income for housing, endure overcrowded conditions and/or live in houses with severe physical deficiencies. While the number of families in poverty is growing, the number of affordable rental units is shrinking, and most families who qualify for government housing assistance aren't receiving any aid.

Worldwide, the need is even greater. Some 2 billion people worldwide live in poverty housing. More than 1 billion live in urban slums, and that figure is expected to double by 2030. Many of these people earn less than US$2 per day.

Housing problems have far-reaching consequences. The high cost of housing leaves low-income families little money for other basic necessities like food, clothing or health care. Substandard housing can endanger the health and safety of its occupants, erode their hope and self-worth, and impair their children's ability to succeed in school.

Highland Lakes Habitat for Humanity is changing lives. Working in partnership with low-income families to build decent homes they can afford to buy, Habitat helps to break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness. Over the next eleven years it is our desire to assist thirty-three more families in our communities to be able to live in decent, affordable Habitat for Humanity houses.
